A special blog entry - wishing our readers all the best for the year ahead, and for the new decade!
On 1 January, I took a walk deep into one of the oldest parts of Venice (true, not all areas are of the same age, even in the centro storico): Calle e rio dei Fuseri has always been one of my favorite areas in Venice, as it recalls the Venice of a past even I witnessed as child in the 1990s!
If you would like to follow along, click on the Google Map below to explore the area around Ristorante da Ivo (well-known especially in the US and UK, with many guests and actors who return to this place).
Just across, one of my favorite boutiques, Pot Pourri is located. I love its little terrace just above the water, decorated with ceramic flower pots in the summer. A cool and refreshing place, and right now, so quiet. It can get rather crowded in the summer, as Ponte dei Fuseri is a favorite place for tourists to stop and consult their maps. While Le Mercerie is still the main thoroughway between San Marco and Rialto, this path along Frezzeria and Calle dei Fuseri is a good alternative to reach your destination. And we'll arrive straight in Campo San Luca, and might as well take a little detour to visit la Scala dei Bovolo nearby.
Along Calle dei Fuseri you will find little botteghe (stores) of photographers (like Marco Missiaja's atelier), street food (cibo di strada), such as Pasta e Sugo, a culinary start-up, or Pelletteria Veneta, whose leather bags every Venetian knows.
As this is a garden blog, for all who'd love to experience the beautiful terraces and hidden balconies of Venetian residences, why not visit Casa Coppo, a former merchant home, or Hotel Al Codega which has its very own little campo and quiet flower terrace next to the entrance. A secret for you to go and discover, and a wonderful way to stray off the beaten paths. Below, you can start exploring via Corte Coppo on Google Maps / Street view.
Enjoy this little time-out in Venice, and to finish, I'd go and have a coffee on Campo San Luca (like Pasticceria Martini Time), or Corte Coppo that you can see above. Talk soon here! If you have a question, please click here to get in touch with us.
